Sweeterfat has reintroduced Gaetano Pesce’s celebrated Chiat/Day office design in its original FiDi location through the “Return to Office” exhibition. Pesce’s 1994 workplace was a radical experiment in virtuality, featuring resin-drenched furniture, Macintosh Powerbooks, and a sculptural, flexible layout that challenged traditional office norms.

Many of the salvaged pieces survived demolition due to a collector’s intervention in 1998 and have been in storage until now. Highlights include citrine-colored conference tables with resin glob legs, Pesce’s signature Broadway chairs, and uniquely designed wooden locker doors, each personalised with psychedelic patterns and cut-out faces.

The exhibition juxtaposes the concrete floors and exposed beams of the current space with the playful, immersive original design. Pesce’s philosophy prioritised worker individuality and interaction, embedding hidden details and playful friction into his furniture to provoke engagement and reflection.

Noah O’Leary of Sweeterfat emphasises that each object extends an invitation to the viewer, making the exhibition both interactive and thought-provoking. As contemporary offices increasingly prioritise efficiency over personalisation, Pesce’s vision remains strikingly relevant, reminding visitors of the potential for joy, surprise, and human connection in workspace design.
