Mia Karlsson-Matthews, founder and director of London-based Mia Karlsson Interior Design, has been confirmed as a member of the judging panel for the Fit Out Awards UK 2026, bringing over two decades of award-winning residential interior design practice and a reputation built on functional, bespoke interiors to the evaluation of the UK's premier celebration of fit out excellence.

Originally from Sweden, Karlsson-Matthews founded her studio in 2004, integrating Scandinavian pragmatism with a bold contemporary aesthetic to deliver a design philosophy centred on approachable luxury and spatial intelligence.

With over 300 completed projects to her name, she has established a practice that is as well regarded for its technical command of spatial planning as it is for its distinctive visual sensibility.

Her work is regularly featured in leading interior design publications, reflecting both the breadth of her output and the consistency of quality that has defined the studio across more than two decades of practice.

Her professional credentials reinforce that standing. Karlsson-Matthews holds a first-class degree in Interior Design and Technology and is a prominent member of the British Institute of Interior Design, professional affiliations that reflect a commitment to the standards and development of the interior design discipline beyond her own studio.

As a former Board Director of BIID, she has contributed to shaping the professional frameworks within which interior architecture and workplace interiors are practised across the UK.

The Fit Out Awards UK 2026 spans 32 categories covering the full range of the fit out sector, from Fit Out Project of the Year and office fit out categories across size and region to sector-specific awards in hospitality, healthcare, retail, residential, and conservation, alongside awards for sustainability, collaboration, and product innovation.

Karlsson-Matthews joins Judging Coordinator Ann-Marie Aguilar of IWBI, Vanessa Brady of SBID, Vyvyan Byrne of VB Design, Dr Eshrar Latif of Cardiff University, Giuseppe Parito of Studio Seilern Architects, Professor Robert Schmidt III of Loughborough University, and Lydia Szewczyk of IWBI.

The awards gala will take place on 24 September 2026 at the Park Plaza London Riverbank.
