McKeever Hotels has announced a £600,000 investment in The Meridian, a cocktail-led hospitality concept at Armagh City Hotel, representing the latest phase of a £4 million total capital programme at the property since its acquisition; this is an organic capital investment, not a transaction, and no counterparty arises.

McKeever Hotels is a family-owned hospitality group headquartered in Antrim, operating seven properties across Northern Ireland and Donegal with current turnover in excess of £25 million and a stated target of £45 million by 2030. The group acquired Armagh City Hotel in 2025. The £4 million total capex programme at the property targets four-star accreditation by 2027 under Tourism NI's classification framework, and The Meridian is the most visible element of that repositioning.

The venue, designed by Belfast-based Drinksology, the brand experience firm behind New York's Dead Rabbit and the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin and London, will have capacity for 120 guests, including The Constellation Room for premium spirit and wine tastings. Fit-out is being delivered by McCue Fit-Out of Carrickfergus. Completion is scheduled for early winter.

The structural driver is Armagh's underdeveloped position within the all-island tourism market relative to its heritage asset base. Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council has set a target of £35 million in annual tourism economic impact, anchored by the Armagh Observatory and Planetarium, the Palace Demesne and its food and cider festival offer.

Tourism Ireland welcomed over 3.2 million overseas visitors to the island in H1 2026, up 15% year on year, with food and drink experiences ranking as the number one short-stay motivator in Tourism NI's consumer research. A cocktail-led concept with a brand story rooted in the Armagh Observatory's astronomy and navigation heritage is a direct attempt to convert that tourism demand into dwell time and per-head spend at the hotel level.

The Drinksology appointment is the most commercially significant element of the announcement. The Dead Rabbit has held the World's Best Bar title and commands international recognition in the premium cocktail sector; its involvement gives The Meridian a brand endorsement that no marketing spend could replicate, positioning it as a genuine all-island destination bar rather than a hotel amenity.

For McKeever Hotels, the sequence matters: Lodge refurbishment in Coleraine, The Meridian in Armagh, and four-star accreditation targets at both properties by 2027 represent a disciplined, asset-by-asset repositioning of a group doubling its revenue target in five years.
