Marcon Fit Out completes immersive installation at Inis Cealtra Visitor Centre
Clare County Council has officially opened the new Inis Cealtra Visitor Centre in Mountshannon, Co. Clare, showcasing Ireland’s ecclesiastical heritage through a modern immersive experience. Marcon Fit Out served as principal contractor, delivering the interactive design by Tandem within the 1905 Old Rectory.
The project integrates a range of set works, coordinated drawings, and specialist packages, including graphics, AV systems, and 3D models. Visitors can explore Early Medieval pilgrimage, the lives of former island inhabitants, local traditions, and the ongoing cultural significance of Inis Cealtra.
The Old Rectory was carefully restored to house the exhibition, balancing historical preservation with modern interpretive infrastructure. Marcon coordinated closely with designers and specialist suppliers to manufacture and install all elements, ensuring high-quality integration of AV and interactive technologies.
The centre includes a first-floor café overlooking Lough Derg and revitalised outdoor Rectory Gardens with seating, enhancing the overall visitor experience. This combination of interior fit out, immersive technology, and landscape upgrades demonstrates the increasing role of integrated fit out solutions in heritage projects.
Contracts Manager Martin McErlean emphasised the collaborative process, highlighting coordination between contractors, designers, and Clare County Council to deliver technical and design elements to specification. The project underlines opportunities for fit out firms in heritage and cultural sectors where both technical delivery and visitor experience are key considerations.
The initiative positions the Inis Cealtra Visitor Centre as a benchmark for interpretive spaces in Ireland, combining historical architecture with contemporary fit out solutions. It also highlights the growing demand for heritage sites to incorporate interactive displays, AV systems, and visitor-focused layouts to support educational and cultural engagement.
