Gilbert-Ash achieves ‘BREEAM Outstanding’ accreditation for Belgravia dementia care fit-out

Belfast-based construction and fit-out company Gilbert-Ash has been awarded the prestigious BREEAM Outstanding rating for its £24 million redevelopment of the Loveday Dementia Care Facility in Belgravia, London.

The certification is among the highest recognitions for sustainability in non-domestic UK buildings, with fewer than 1 per cent of projects achieving this status.

The six-storey plus basement facility spans 40,000 sq ft and accommodates 44 residential suites. Gilbert-Ash’s multi-million euro fit-out included the construction of a reception, dining and lounge areas, kitchen, activity and library spaces, nurse rooms, offices, bike storage, laundry facilities, a hydro spa, salon, and extensive external terraces. Landscaping and outdoor communal areas were also delivered as part of the project.

Michael Heron, the company’s environmental, social, and governance lead, added: “It would not have been possible to achieve this accreditation without early engagement with EPR Architects. Implementing BREEAM Outstanding will ensure resource efficiency and lower maintenance and energy costs over the structure’s lifespan.”
