Flynn Management and Contractors wins Galway City Council civic office fit-out at Crown Square

Galway City Council has awarded the fit-out contract for its new civic headquarters at Three Crown Square, Mervue, to Flynn Management and Contractors, with works now under way following the conclusion of a competitive tender process in Q4 2025.

According to Galway City Council, the 43-week fit-out programme commenced in Q2 2026, with staff occupation of the completed building anticipated in Q4 2026. The integrated design team is being led by Henry J Lyons, with AECOM Ireland Ltd serving as project manager.

The new facility will consolidate staff currently operating across four separate city centre locations into a single, purpose-designed civic building. Accommodation will include private and group meeting rooms, a Council Chamber with audiovisual facilities, public counters, staff canteen and welfare areas, and dedicated facilities for elected members.

The offices have been designed to achieve LEED Gold compliance, Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) standards and a BER 'A' energy rating, in line with the Council's corporate sustainability objectives and its target of attaining carbon neutrality.

"By bringing our staff to one central location, Crown Square will strengthen collaboration and support better services for the people of Galway City," said Leonard Cleary, Chief Executive of Galway City Council. "We look forward to seeing the building transform over the next few weeks as we prepare for occupation in late 2026."

Derek Pender, Director of Service for the Project Management Directorate, confirmed that a Move and Change Management Team has been established internally to manage the transition and maintain continuity of service delivery throughout the fit-out period.

"Flynn are proud to be delivering this landmark project for Galway City Council at Crown Square, transforming the space into a state-of-the-art civic headquarters," the contractor said, adding that it would work closely with all project stakeholders to ensure a high-quality outcome.
