Dunnes Stores completes multi-million pound refurbishment at Foyleside Shopping Centre in Derry

Northern Ireland-based Dunnes Stores has undertaken a major refurbishment at Foyleside Shopping Centre in Derry, creating the largest Dunnes Store in Northern Ireland at 43,591 square feet of retail floor, the Belfast Telegraph reported.

The transformation absorbs the former Foyleside food court, allowing Dunnes to significantly expand its footprint and create a single, cohesive store environment focused on fashion, lifestyle and homewares.

A major feature of the redevelopment includes a new in-store café positioned to take advantage of panoramic views across the River Foyle.

Dunnes management stated the café is expected to become one of the most distinctive dining locations within the city. For more than three decades, Dunnes Stores has been part of the retail fabric at Foyleside Shopping Centre, with its doors opening when the centre first welcomed shoppers in 1995.

Gareth McCready, store manager at Dunnes Stores Foyleside, described the project as the most exciting chapter in the store's history.

"We're creating a completely reimagined space that focuses on fashion, lifestyle and homewares, with a level of finish that customers might not expect to see outside flagship city locations," McCready said.

"Our team is incredibly proud of what's being delivered here, and we can't wait to welcome customers into a store that truly reflects how people want to shop and spend time today."

Paul Doherty, centre manager at Foyleside Shopping Centre, said the redevelopment represents a milestone moment for the centre. "Dunnes Stores has been part of the story of Foyleside from the very beginning, so this redevelopment feels like a real milestone moment for the centre," Doherty said. "The scale of the investment and the quality of the design show a long-term confidence in Derry and in the strength of the city as a retail destination."

Leading European designers have been appointed to deliver a contemporary, design-led interior.
