Belfast International Airport has closed key bars and kiosks in its departure lounge to undergo extensive fitout as part of a five-year £100m investment programme aimed at modernising passenger facilities and dining experiences.

The airport is introducing new food and beverage offerings designed to enhance the passenger experience. A coffee bar, Soul and Grain, opened in December 2025 through collaboration with SSP Group. A 300-cover premium bar and kitchen concept is under development, alongside a casual dining restaurant aimed at families and larger groups. Familiar operators Starbucks and Burger King will remain.

The Lagan Bar is also undergoing a revamp, including increased seating capacity. A spokesperson for the airport said, "We’re making big improvements to our departure lounge to give you an even better airport experience! While this work is underway, some areas and units are temporarily closed. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience."

The redevelopment complements recently completed upgrades including a state-of-the-art security hall, world-class duty-free shopping, a new arrivals area, and improved forecourt facilities. The fitout emphasises locally inspired menus and regional suppliers, reflecting Northern Ireland’s culture, history, and landmarks.

The project underscores a broader trend of modernising airport commercial spaces to increase dwell time spend, support food and beverage revenue growth, and improve overall passenger satisfaction. By integrating a combination of premium, casual, and convenience concepts, the airport aims to create a versatile, passenger-friendly environment while showcasing local products.

The temporary closures are planned to minimise disruption, and new outlets will provide a mix of grab-and-go, casual, and premium options once completed. The investment marks a significant step in transforming Belfast International into a modern, commercially optimised terminal hub.
